PREGNANCY IN A BICORNUATE UTERUS COMPLICATED BY THE PRESENCE OF A TRANSVERSE VAGINAL SEPTUM

A TRANSVERSE vaginal septum is a rare cause of obstruction to the descent of the foetus through the birth canal. In 1939 Davids collected 23 cases from the literature and added 2 of his own. No further cases are described in the English literature until 1954 when Bowman and Scott recorded their case. Although few references are to be found the standard textbooks give one the impression that the problem is one which every obstetrician will meet at least once in a lifetime: Donald (1955) and Mayes (1955) each record a personal case.
