Sirowet — A comprehensive dynamic full scale curtain wall testing procedure

Abstract SIROWET is a facade performance testing technique that simulates wind driven weather conditions likely to be experienced over life of a building. This has some very important implications for the reduction of commercial risk associated with facades. The major elements of this testing technique include the simulation of gusting wind combined with rain exposure to the outer face of buildings in a way that other test methods, such as static pressure and propeller tests do not. Other areas discussed include structural performance, air infiltration testing and proof testing. The results of the performance of some unusual facade designs will be discussed along with the methods used to test them. Finally, the future of facade testing and the development of more sophisticated testing techniques will be examined.
