THE EFFECT OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS ON ROAD ACCIDENTS - WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE INTRODUCTION OF A BLINKING GREEN PHASE

The effect of signalization of intersections on road safety has been evaluated. One detail of signal control, the introduction of a 2 to 3-second blinking green phase at the end of the green period, has been especially studied. The second section of this paper presents the data on which the study is based. The third section discusses methodological problems encountered in before-and-after studies of safety improvements. The fourth section presents the evaluation of the signalized intersections studied, and the fifth section deals with the safety effects of a special blinking green phase. Language: en
