An Approach to Implementation of both IP Interconnection and Conventional LAN Simulation on ATM Networks

A paradigm referring to hierarchies is proposed to construct ATM networks and the description about device configurations is presented in regard to the proposed model in the paper. Then the method and process to establish ATM connections as well as ATM address resolution protocol are discussed. The better performance of ATM networks is fully used in this model, the IP interconnection and the simulation of traditional local area network (LAN) on ATM network are effectively realized, and this model can facilitate the interconnection to existing conventional LANs. Finally, the practical applications is briefly depicted by the authors.
