A Look at Wireless

This issue of IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine deals with topics in wireless communications. The first article deals with propagation planning for wireless systems of meter scale in enclosed areas, and it presents tradeoffs between modeling complexity and accuracy. The second article covers aspects of cognitive radio, an important approach to maximizing the use of spectrum. Cognitive radio systems require each communication node to be aware of its local spectrum activity and to take actions to maximize its signaling reliability while minimizing interference with communication from other nodes. The article develops a policy-based approach based at the applications layer using physical layer measurements. This issue marks the beginning of the magazine’s third year of publication. With it you will find a CD with the papers from the 2007 Vehicular Technology Spring and Fall Conferences, held in Dublin and Baltimore, respectively. VT Conference papers are a good way to stay current with new developments in the field, and the IEEE
