Serum Mutant K‐ras in the Colorectal Adenoma‐to‐Carcinoma Sequence: Implications for Diagnosis, Postoperative Follow‐up, and Early Detection of Recurrent Disease

The aim of this study is to detect mutant K-ras in the plasma/serum of patients with colorectal adenomata and carcinomas, and to correlate this with the presence or absence of K-ras mutation in the primary tumor. In addition, we intend to investigate the prevalence of mutant K-ras in the serum of the postresection patient and to investigate if postoperative appearance or persistence of mutant DNA in the serum correlates with disease recurrence.
