Effectiveness of Peers Who Reentered College in a Program to Enhance Retention

To study the effects of counseling by reentered peers on the 1-yr. retention rate of nontraditional college students, 77 female students were randomly assigned to a group who received peer counseling and 78 were randomly assigned to a control group who did not receive peer counseling. Although a higher percentage of the counseled group than of the control group (57 vs 53) were retained, the difference was nonsignificant. Suggestions for improving a replication of the study were made
