Representation of Saturation in Synchronous Machines

Prediction of synchronous machine steady state and transient performance requires proper account of iron saturation effects. This paper explores, with simplifying assumptions, the physics of saliency and saturation and evaluates the capability of two alternate methods of saturation representation through comparisons of the calculations versus published test data for the Lambton generator of Ontario Hydro. Presented also are results of sensitivity to variations in parameters and model structures.
