Private and Authentic Communication in Passive Optical Networks

Broadband access systems based on Passive Optical Networks (PONs) present a cost-effective alternative to star-shaped ones. An inherent weakness of PONs lies in their tree topology. This article identifies the measures necessary to support private and authentic two-way communication via a passive tree.
