Performance Support Systems: Design considerations

On-the-job training and professional development is an integral part of today's workforce. In the current study, the authors investigated the use of a Performance Support System (PSS) designed to support educators to integrate technology during their lesson planning. The system is known as Matrix Aided Performance Support System (MAPS). The PSS is intended to provide scaffolding to educators, and like any scaffolding, it is intended to be removed gradually once the educators become more confident. 29 administrators, instructional technologists, and pre- and in-service teachers were invited to evaluate the system's performance, readiness, and constraints for real-world settings. Based on the focus group interviews and questionnaire, there was positive consensus regarding the unified interface design. The participants provided additional feedback to further enhance the systems performance and functionality for the real-world settings.
