A Generalized Moving Average Filter for Active Power Filter Applications

In recent years, the large number of nonlinear, unbalanced and reactive loads such as single-phase rectifiers are widely used in the distributed power grid. Obviously, a series of harmonic currents and unbalanced load currents are affecting the power quality seriously. This power harmonic pollution poses a huge threat to the stability, safety, and economic operation of the power system. Therefore, the issue of the harmonic current control in the power system is a hotspot research topic. The existing main technology about harmonic control is using a harmonic compensation device-active power filter (APF). In the aspect of harmonic current extraction of active power filter, the defects of real-time and dynamic in the conventional two harmonic current detections are analyzed. Then, an improved harmonic current extraction method named generalized moving average filter is proposed to replace the original low-pass filter. Finally, the simulation model of three methods is built in the MATLAB/Simulink environment to verify the advantages of the GMAF.
