GARBOGAIN®– A NEW LOCAL ANAESTHETIC

The local analgesic properties of CarbocainB were first described by B. AF EKENSTAM et al. (1956)l. Toxicity studies showed that it was more toxic than procaine, but less so than lidocaine (H. R. ULFENDAHL (1957))6. Clinical trials have been performed by K. G. DHUNBR et al. ( 1956)3, T. C. GRAY and J. M. MUMFORD ( 1957)4 and H. HARNISCH ( 1953)5. These authors agree that Carbocain is a very useful drug with properties similar to those of lidocaine. It was found that, when no adrenaline was added, the action of Carbocain was longer than that of lidocaine, while the latter drug seemed to benefit more from the addition of adrenaline.
