Developing distributed bioinformatics applications in Windows/Linux heterogeneous environments using SFU

Microsoft Services for UNIX(SFU) is a high performance UNIX subsystem and interoperability toolkit under Windows. It allows Windows based and UNIX based computers to share data, security credentials, and scripts. This paper is concerned with how to use SFU to recompile and run Linux Blat software under Windows,to share sequence database, and construct a distributed bioinformatics application in Windows/Linux heterogeneous environments. It has been showed that the scheme could increase efficiency of computing resource by integrating powers of Windows and Linux computers.
