Apparatus and method for reusing of frequency to avoiding interference between relay terminals in a multi-hop relay system

A frequency reuse device for interference avoidance between relay stations and terminals in a multi-hop relay system and a method are provided to enable the terminals to transmit only minimum interference information to a base station while the base station mediates so that the terminals linked with each relay station can avoid interference, thereby reusing frequencies by avoiding interference between the relay stations and the terminals. A terminal checks whether a preamble is received from a serving relay station(501). If so, the terminal measures signal strength of the preamble(503). The terminal checks whether the measured signal strength of the preamble is smaller than a predetermined preamble signal strength threshold value(505). If so, the terminal measures signal strength of preambles received from more than one neighboring relay station(507). The terminal calculates a preamble strength ratio by using the signal strength of the preamble received from the serving relay station and the signal strength of the preambles received from the neighboring relay stations(509). The terminal transmits the calculated ratio to a base station(511).
