Energy-efficient electrochemical CO2 capture from the atmosphere

We discuss our experimental progress toward energyefficient electrochemical CO 2 capture from the atmosphere. First we discuss the latest results from an ongoing project that uses a modified-fuel-cell-based approach for CO 2 concentration [1]. Using this approach, we have demonstrated CO2 capture from atmospheric concentrations with an energy consumption of less than 400 kJ/mol(CO2). We also discuss progress on a second approach to electrochemical CO2 concentration: a novel pH-controlled, high pressure electrodialysis system that allows energyefficient, high-rate CO 2 separation from the atmosphere [2].
