Modelling the Colour of Water in Lighting Design

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the modeling the color of water in lighting design. The primary light is used to calculate the illuminance, and the intensity of scattering light. Both components, diffuse reflection, and specular reflection, are taken into account. Interreflection of light between objects above the water, and interreflection among objects within it are taken into account separately, and the interreflection of light among objects located in the two mediums is ignored. The interreflection due to the diffuse reflection components is taken into account. A conventional radiosity method for handling diffuse reflection is employed for the objects above the water surface. For the calculation of interreflection of light among objects within the water, the attenuation of light caused by scattering/absorption due to particles in the water is taken into account, and the intensity of light at the surface due to scattered light from particles in the water, and its radiosities are neglected. The light sources treated here are point light sources taking into account the characteristics of the luminous intensity distribution, and spectral distribution.
