Creation of an intelligent process planning system within the relational DBMS software environment

Abstract The relational Data Base Management System (DBMS) software constitutes the foundation of a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) information system, because of its flexibility and the ease with which data can be manipulated. In this paper process planning knowledge is formalized using the relational approach, and the features of the process planning rules are identified. A framework for the creation of an intelligent process planning system within the relational data base management system software environment, together with a case study, is presented.
