In this case we have shown that our two-step approach, using an initial dermal matrix and then applying cultured keratinocytes and fibroblasts as a composite graft, permits the reconstruction of stable skin and coverage of large skin defects. This technique restored a functioning hand and seems to be promising in the treatment of these patients.
