Impact of wind generators on the stability of power system network

This paper investigates the impacts of wind generators on the transient stability of a small power system. Two types of wind generators are considered, a fixed speed and variable speed induction generators. The behavior of synchronous generator's rotor angle and terminal voltage during a three phase fault is studied for different penetration of DG units. Simulation results show that the fixed speed wind generator has negative impact on the transient stability of the network than the variable speed wind generator. It is also shown that as the level of penetration increases, the transient stability margins decrease.
