A REVIEW OF MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF HUMAN SENSORY DYNAMICS RELEVANT TO THE STEERING TASK

This paper provides a brief overview of the existing response models and perceptive thresholds of the human sensory systems related to steering a car and sensing its response. Key models from the literature are identified and analyzed with regards to their limitations and applicability to the task. Measured data of detection thresholds and Weber fractions for the different sensory modalities are summarized and areas of missing information highlighted. The significance of signal-dependent noise in sensory dynamics is also explained.
