Comparison among RZ, NRZ, and CRZ Pulse Evolutions in Birefringent Nonlinear Fibers with Third-order Dispersion Effect

Based on the modified numerical method, we simulated the evolutions of RZ, NRZ and CRZ pulses at bit-rate of 40 Gbit/s in birefringent nonlinear optical fiber with third-order chromatic dispersion effect. Comparisons were performed on a variety of parameters such as chirping and pulse sharpness degrees. The results show that for high bit-rate transmission in birefringent, nonlinear optical fiber, appropriately negative chirped CRZ pulses are preferred.
