Measurement foundations for preference function modelling

We define and study fundamental aspects of homomorphic modelling of measurement. We characterize the existence and uniqueness problems in terms of systems of relational equations and show that the information in abstract existence theorems is sufficient to determine uniqueness type but is insufficient to solve the assignment problem. We also establish that the common distinction between utility and value functions is a misconception and that PFM is a methodology for measuring utilities.
