Diesel Fuel Quality: Engine Performance and Emissions

Diesel fuels are being blended with more and more cracked components resulting in poor oxidation and storage stability of the fuels. The present work was carried out to study the occurrence of nozzle coking in DI diesel engines of field vehicles. The deterioration in engine performance and emission characteristics due to nozzle coking was studied. In addition the effect of ignition quality and fuel viscosity was studied. Engine tests of 500 hours duration were conducted to evaluate the effect of cracked diesel components on nozzle coking, engine performance and emissions. 27 refs., 27 figs., 18 tabs.
