Simulating RCS of the parameterized blades of a wind turbine

In this paper we have for the first time built an approximate CAD model of a wind turbine blade, which is named as a parameterized blade. We have performed simulations of radar cross section of the parameterized blades as well as the precise blades using physical-optics method. Simulation results show that the parameterized model of the blades is sufficient in the assessment of the radar cross section of the actual wind turbine blades. Furthermore, the CAD model of the parameterized blades is used for the investigation of the effects of several major parameters on the radar cross section of the wind turbine blades. The obtained radar cross sections of wind turbine blades are especially useful for evaluating the effects of wind farms on various equipments employed in aviation.
