Research of the Motorcycle Trousers Functionality Depending of Construction Parameters of Cutting Parts

Motorcycle pants, as a protective garment for special purposes, have to satisfied a number of conditions in order to the criteria of functionality. This refers to the design of the model, construction/design of cutting parts, choice of materials, clothing technology and incorporation of protective elements. Due to prolonged exposure of drivers to dangerous conditions while driving, and the specific body position, garment must not in any of its parts, cause too much pressure on the body, i.e. the material from which the garment is made should be able to bear increased stress, and at the same time it must allow sufficient flexibility and comfort to the driver. This paper presents results of the conducted research regarding the impact/influence of constructional elements of cutting parts to the functionality of the two selected models of motorcycle pants/ trousers. Physical and mechanical properties of the material intended for the production of mentioned trousers are determined. Based on the obtained properties, a computational analysis of stress and stretch/elongation of the material in/on characteristic areas of the trousers. 3D scanning of respondent in body positions/postures characteristic for motorcycle riders was performed. Obtained computer models of the body were then used for 3D simulations of model prototypes in precisely chosen/defined positions of the body. By analyzing the results, it was determined which of the two models provides better functionality aspects of the design style.
