Report on the ICSLP satellite workshop on assessment in Kobe (Japan) and visits to several Japanese laboratories working on speech communication, 19-30 November 1990

Abstract This report concerns the content of the workshop held in Kobe, Japan on 23 and 24 November 1990 regarding assessment, entitled, “ International Symposium on International Coordination and Standardisation of Speech Database and Assessment Techniques for Speech Input/Output ”. It also relates information about the state of the art in Speech Processing in Japan, gleaned from the authors' visits to twelve Japanese academic and industrial laboratories. The two topics will be addressed separately; any information on assessment work obtained during the lab visits is included in the workshop discussion, for the sake of clarity.
