The solid-liquid phase diagram for the UO2-PuO2 system☆

Abstract The liquidus and solidus were experimentally determined for the UO2-PuO2 system by a thermal arrest method. The phase diagram is typical of a binary pair with complete solid solution and without maximum or minimum. A melting point of 2840 ± 20° C was observed for UO2, and a melting point of 2390 ± 20° C was observed for PuO2. Calculated theoretical liquidus and solidus curves exhibit remarkably good agreement with the experimental values found.
