The Comparison of Three Getting Signal Control Delay Video Methods at Signalized Intersection

The paper studies three video detection methods, and present the methods’ detection theory. The instantaneous stopping detection method can obtain vehicles’ stopping delay. The semiautomatic software detection method can use the video generated from the camera to retrieve vehicles’ stopping and accelerating delay. This method however cannot obtain the total delay that includes the accelerating, stopping and decelerating delays. The double section video method sets two areas at a proper situation and obtains the signalized control delay. Using manually collected exact delay, the paper analyses the accuracy of these three video methods. It is proven that the instantaneous stopping detecting method can get about 70% accuracy, the semiautomatic software detecting method 82%, and the double section video detecting method can get more than 90% accuracy.
