Epidemiologie der Demenz

Im Zuge der gestiegenen Lebenserwartung sind die vorwiegend in hoherem Alter auftretenden dementieilen Erkrankungen zu einem Gesundheits- und Versorgungsproblem ersten Ranges geworden. Die Epidemiologie hat zu ihrer Erforschung bisher v.a. deskriptive Daten beigetragen, mit denen sich ein masstabsgetreues Abbild der Verbreitung des Demenzsyndroms in der Bevolkerung zeichnen last. Inzwischen liegen zahlreiche Untersuchungen vor, die trotz unterschiedlicher Fallkriterien eine hinreichend verlasliche Eingrenzung der Krankheitshaufigkeit erlauben.
