Real-time Implementation of Fault Sensitive Filters to a Three-tank Laboratory Plant

The use and implementation of fault sensitive filters in fault detection and isolation to a real plant is presented. The paper gives some basic background on fault sensitive filters and their derivation on the basis of the mathematical fault model, and some theory on adaptive thresholds used for quality fault detection. The reference table of faults is presented to show full isolability of the faults that can be introduced to the plant. A sample FDI scheme was performed on a most popular case study, namely the three-tank system, using online data acquisition and the Matlab/ Simulink environment. Experimental results illustrate the applicability and efficiency of the FDI scheme, which operates well even when small abrupt faults are introduced to the real plant
