An automatic disturbance rejection controller (ADRC) was used in a power plant ball mill to control instabilities due to the strong coupling and the large time delay. A numerical simulation was used to compare the ADRC with the reservedframe normalization method in the coupling loops and the SMITH predictive compensation method in the timedelay loop. The results demonstrated that the ADRC control performance was similar to a combination of the other two methods but that ADRC was more robust with model uncertainties and disturbances. Therefore, the ADRC will improve control of a ball mill.
