TIMEFRAMENOTIONANDTIMERESPONSE OFTHEMODELSINTRANSIENT, MID-TERM ANDLONG-TERM STABILITY PROGRAMS

Thereisconsiderable interest inex- pandingthecapability of transient stability simula- tiontoextendthetimerange ofsimulation andtoadd more power systemcomponents. The EPRIprojects RP745andRP1208extended transient stability simu- lationto themid-andlong-term range. Additional power systemcomponents haveaddedboth high-speed dynamics(dcconverters, generatorsubtransients) and very low speedeffects(boilerdynamics, AGC con- trols).Thispaper addresses theinterfacing of the widerange of timeframes. A measure of the time framesisdefinedandevaluated forpower systemcom- ponentsintheEPRIRP1208Transient/Midterm Stabil- ity Program. The limitations and capabilities of stability simulation to properly support therangeof timeframesis discussed.Thisworkhasbeensup- ported, inpart,byEPRIprojects RP745,RP1208and RP1469.
