Principles ofthisultrawide bandwidth phaseshifter arebasedupontheuseofafrequency-tunable local oscillator (LO)feeding adelay element Through prop- erfrequency variation, twocoherent phase-shifted LO signals areproduced. Thefirst LO signal isusedfor fundamental up-conversion withtheincident radio- frequency (RP)signal; thephase-shifted RF output signal isthenobtained bydown-conversion, using the second LOsipal. Measurements doneonaprototype indicate anover than20:1operational bandwidth, merely limited by filter band-width considerations.
