A Programmable Mixed Signal ASIC For Power Management

A mixed-signal ASIC has been designed for three phase power management applications. The integrated circuit (Ie) performs data acquisition and calculations required for over-current protection, over-voltage or under-voltage protection, power metering, and frequency measurement The IC contains circuitry for interfacing to a microprocessor and a non-volitile memory (NVM). The IC provides analog circuitry for power supply control used in self-powered applications. The design includes eight first-order sigma-delta (I-L\) ADC's, bit-serial DSp, and an asynchronous microprocessor interface. The device was fabricated in a 1.5 micron silicon process and achieves an accuracy of better than 2% for power metering with nominal voltage and current inputs.
