Modulation of THz radiation by semiconductor nanostructures

In this paper we discuss the possibility of an electrically controlled THz modulator based on a gated two-dimensional electron gas structure. To investigate the modulation capabilities of such a structure, we performed calculations based on the Drude model. Results caused by the change in intensity and phase of transmitted THz radiation induced by changes in the confined electron density are presented. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
