Similarity Retrieval of 3D Models with Query by Clay Sketch

This paper presents a system for similarity retrieval of 3D models. In the system, a 3D sketch created with clay is used as a query. The clay sketch is digitized into a point cloud with a desktop 3D scanner. To compensate for the lack of scanning accuracy, the digitized model is refined by interpolation and decimation of data points. The effectiveness of the proposed system is experimentally evaluated by comparing the query-by-clay sketch method with other methods. The results have shown that the retrieval performance of the query-by-clay sketch method is superior to conventional methods.
