UGS: A Novel User-Centered Scheduling Scheme in Software Defined Network

Software defined network (SDN) designed a separation from Control Plane with Data Plane, which enhanced the centralized processing Controller to make OpenFlow routing table more flexible and programmable. User centric network (UCN) developed an idea of focusing on the desire of users or user groups for the always best experience (ABE), thus requires a controller to schedule bandwidth resources not only from the network performance, but also user satisfactions along with flow content itself. This paper proposed a UCN structure based on SDN, which establishes an OpenFlow scheduling model named as user gaming scheduling (UGS), including non-cooperative game (NCG) and cooperative game (CG), based on the game theory. The models of NCG-UGS and CG-UGS were established on cross-layer method from UCN to Control Plane by extracting parameters user gaming index (UGI) and user expected bandwidth (UEB), compared with equally sharing resource (ESR) scheme. The simulations showed the CG-UGS gained higher ABE of user group satisfaction degree (SD) than NCG-UGS and ESR. The novel CG-UGS scheme will help to the communication operators to realize the concept of customer being king in UCN times.
