Computer Simulation and Its Impact on Educational Research and Practice.

The use of computer simulation as a technique for building formal models of mental processes forces the cognitivs psychologist to consider the content of knowledge, In particular strategic or heuristic knowledge. The rationale and workmode of simulation research are summarized. A short review illustrates the range of phenomena with educational relevance to which the simulation technique has been applied. Computer simulation and education are predicted to interact in several ways in the future, most directly through computerized teaching tools like intelligent tutoring systems and systems for automatic cognitive diagnosis,
