MAPA: a New High-precision 3D Method of Palatal Miniscrew Placement

This article describes a new insertion guide system that facilitates the precise directional positioning of miniscrews on the palate. The MAPA (MAino-PAoletto) guide is made with the aid of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and digital casts. The development of purpose-designed software has enabled the design and construction of insertion guides that allow good exploitation of available bone, making miniscrews placement safer and more precise. The application of this method to a clinical case is discussed, as well as the indications, efficacy and possible complications of the device.
