In the performance based design, so called, timeline approach has been applied to estimate the possible fatalities. The time line approach consists of ASET (available safe egress time) analysis and RSET (required safe egress time). The ASET is defined as the time of onset of untenable conditions that is determined from the tenability. The RSET comprises detection and alarm time, pre-movement time and travel time. When the time line analysis is conducted, zone modeling or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques and evacuation simulations are usually used to determine ASET and RSET respectively. The design principle is to ensure the ASET is always longer than the RSET. ASET and RSET are usually determined separately. However, in the developed simulator, fatalities or casualties can be estimated considering physical damages by smoke inhalation or heat by importing simulated data from FDS program which was developed by NIST. The case studies were carried out to verify its performance by comparing with the widely used commercial program.
