Modeling single and double stator axial eddy current brakes considering current displacement, magnetic leakage, fringing and saturation using coupled electric and magnetic equivalent circuits

In this paper classical electrical machine design schemes are outlined and evaluated in terms of designing eddy current brakes. Next, a generic approach to model single and double stator axial eddy current brakes is proposed. This approach uses coupled electric and magnetic equivalent circuits and takes current displacement, magnetic leakage, fringing and saturation into account. Finally, the suggested generic approach is verified experimentally by actual measurements of a single stator axial eddy current brake.
