A novel MnO2-poly(5-cyanoindole) composite (MnO2-PCIn) has been successfully prepared by a two-step electrochemical method and evaluated as an active electrode material for supercapacitors. As-prepared MnO2-PCIn was characterized by SEM, EDX and electrochemical methods. SEM and EDX of MnO2-PCIn showed that MnO2 was electrodeposited on porous network PCIn film. The specific capacitance of MnO2-PCIn electrode reached 322.5 F g -1 under the current density of 8.3A g and its total specific capacitance loss was about 28.3% after 1000 cycles. However, the specific capacitance of MnO2 deposited on the bare glassy carbon electrode (GC) was 247 F g -1 and its total specific capacitance loss was about 82 % only after 70 cycles. These results indicated that presence of PCIn improved the specific capacitance and the stability of charge-discharge of MnO2.
