SIMULATION-BASED REGIONAL MODELS : CONCEPT, DESIGN AND APPLICATION

Abstract Regional models describe the spatial and temporal dynamics of coupled subsystems. They are based on a subregion classification and can be split up into a static and a dynamic part. Methods are outlined to map regional models by coupling geographic information systems and modelling and simulation systems. A database management system forms the interface between the two parts. The interface is supported by the model calibration and data import management of the simulation system in a flexible form. An application is devoted to the development of a one-sectoral forest regional model.
