Groupware Developers Need More Than Replicated Objects

This position paper addresses the question whether existing frameworks for single user application development can generally be used on top of a n OOGP as they are. The paper negates this questio n by using the example of synchronous document-based groupware (SDBG). Some SDBG-specific requirements for a groupware platform architecture are postulated and it is shown how these requirements conflict with the usage of a typical framework for the development o f single user interfaces. The requirements concern the kind of replication technique needed for SDBG to ensure both easy development and efficiency at run-time . The conflict with traditional user interface frameworks is identified to be the problem of update upon change of replicated
