Characteristics of micromixing in a stirred tank with an axial impeller

The product distribution of fast complex reactions in a stirred reactor is significantly effected by micromixing. A pair of competitive parallel test reactions were used to investigate the micromixing in the stirred tank of 0 476?m diameter with single down pumping airfoil CBY impeller. The effects of feed time, impeller speed and feed location on the product distributions were systematically studied. The simplified micromixing model, the engulfment model (E model), was used to predict the product distributions. The results predicted by the E model are reasonably agreed with the experimental data. The results show the importance to design and scale up industry reactors with fast complex reactions.
