Joint meeting on the feasibility of a study of screening premenopausal women (40‐49 years) for breast cancer: April 20–21, 1994

In the fall of 1993, the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) convened a meeting to address the issues concerning the early diagnosis of breast cancer of premenopausal women, 40-49 years of age, in developed countries. A major outcome of that conference was a recommendation to pursue further the possibility of additional randomized clinical trials to answer unsettled issues in this arena in the United States and Europe. Accordingly, this subsequent meeting was planned jointly by the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, and the UICC. Herein are the reports of the four workgroups and a summary of the discussion held at the conclusion of these reports.
