THE ESTIMATION OF TURNING FLOWS ON A JUNCTION

The information contained in counts on approaches of a junction is insufficient to determine a unique flow matrix. This paper gives a method to find a single solution that satisfies the constraints on the in- and outflows. It gives further a formula to correct the counted flows when flows into and out of the intersection are not in equilibrium. The method is especially useful for the updating of an old flow matrix or for the estimation of turning flows when the required accuracy is not too high. (a) (TRRL)
