Proceedings of Futureground, Design Research Society International Conference, Monash University, 17-21 November, 2004.

This output refers to proceedings of the second DRS international conference, hosted by Monash University Australia. http://www.futureground.monash.edu.au/index.html This event was based on experiences arising from the 2002 DRS conference, with further development of peer review processes and organisation, now set out in report form (unpublished) containing threshold standards for future organisers. Futureground was a general design research conference, with an overarching theme of exploring future possibilities for design research. Over 300 delegates from 30 countries attended a 4 day event, with 200 presenters. Peer review was developed further from the previous event, and comprised a geographically widespread group of 100 reviewers carefully selected and based in teams reflecting major regional communities and societies. This employed double blind review on both abstracts and full papers, with an expanded editorial group. An exhibition was held concurrently showing the Australia National Design Awards. Full proceedings were published in book form. The International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) was launched at this event (Durling is a founding member of IASDR executive). Durling is continuing to help develop peer review processes and means of dissemination with future conferences, for example DRS08, Sheffield, with a theme on rigour in research http://drs2008.designinquiry.wikispaces.net/
