Generalized delay diversity code: a simple and powerful space-time coding scheme

We consider the design of a simple but powerful space-time trellis coding scheme. It combines some simple block code with a delay element between multiple transmit antennas and is referred to as generalized delay diversity code (GDDC). The necessary and sufficient condition for GDDC to achieve full diversity advantage is given. It is proved that all the full diversity GDDC on a BPSK constellation have the same coding gain. We have also thoroughly studied the coding gain of full diversity GDDC on a QPSK constellation and the optimal GDDC is given. The strategy can also be applied to the analysis of the coding gain of full diversity GDDC defined on any PSK and QAM constellation.
