A note on the behavior of deterministic spatial epidemics

Abstract A general mechanism for the spread of infection over a system of spatially connected locations involving both mobility of individuals and contact between neighboring locations is considered. Equations describing the outcome of the epidemic are derived, for a quite general spatially heterogeneous epidemic. It is shown that in the spatially homogeneous case, if equilibrium behavior occurs, then it does not depend critically on the details of the mechanism of spread of infection.
